AWEDIS was established in 2000 and comprises a group of like-minded people, who wanted to contribute to the development of their communities through a range of events and activities.

Our vision is best captured in the phrase “no man is an island” , recognising the interdependence of each person on the other in achieving goals and fulfilling potential. We are strong when we pull together, and the word AWEDIS symbolises this belief and journey.

Objectives:

• To organise and deliver events in aid of local & national charities and to support good causes (i.e. quiz nights and Black Tie Dinner & Dance).

• To organise, develop and implement seminars and similar learning events to raise awareness and to grasp opportunities that supports our vision.

• To establish an educational bursary programme to support local children and young people as they transition into adulthood.

Key priorities:

1. To secure sponsorships and donations to support our chosen charities.

2. To harness and provide advice and support in delivering our vision.

In 2005 we introduced our first Quiz Night in support of local charities and good causes this has developed into a bi-annual feature in our calendar attracting 150 – 200 participants at each event. In 2007 we launched our first Black Tie Dinner & Dance Ball in aid of our chosen charity (e.g. Prostate cancer, MacMillan Cancer Support, Sickle Cell Society and Alzheimer’s Society).

Below is a list of some of the charities we have supported since 2005.
